Mee Penang is located off JalanPaboi, Bukit Tambun, 14110 SimpangEmpat, on Penang mainland. This eatery boasts a good variety of local mamak delights. The mee goreng at only RM4 taste sublime. Make it a Mee Goreng Sotong at RM 6 and you will be on cloud 9. The succulent and fresh squids are stir fried to perfection with a spicy sweet sambal type of flavor. The mee is goreng-ed (fried) to absolute perfection. Neither too stiff or too soggy. Just nice! The other condiments like bean curd (taukua) and potatoes perfectly wraps up the taste of the mee goreng.
The Mee Rebus at only RM 5 comes with eggs and a lot of fried fritters. You can see that it is well balanced with the egg, taugeh and other condiments.
Pasembur, a local mamak twist to a salad is filled with freshly grated sweet, sweet sengkuang cina aka. Jicama. Other ingredients are cucumber, boiled potatoes, beancurd and boiled egg. All topped with a savory sweet sauce made of potatoes that is unique to Penang pasembur. All arranged into a little hill of sumptuous goodness.
The drink that most people know as Limau Ais, is also amazing here. It has 4 ingredients to the otherwise humble thirst quencher. The Limau Ais at Mee Penang has the usual calamansi lime, key lime, lemon and a sour plum. It is definitely a must have at just RM2.
Another unusual drink here is the TV3 drink which is a blend of rose syrup, milk and cincau also at RM2. (Cincau is grass jelly, in case you didn’t know). Definitely a value for your money with the amount of ingredients thrown in. There is also the Teh Ais Raja Sultan which is touted as highly addictive on their banner. When we ordered it, it tastes like the usual Teh but with cincau. But as we continued slurping this unique drink, needless to say, we were hooked. Highly addictive indeed.
