Happy New Year to all and anyone who reads my humble blog. Once again we have entered the beginning of a new year, one that we all hope will bring better tidings for everyone.

As usual there were count down events all over the state of Penang last night, I decided to go check out the concert at Queensbay Mall as Power Station was coming to perform. Well my main purpose was not to go countdown, but more towards shooting the concert, and besides, I missed the past year’s concert which I think featured more interesting celebrities, not that the celebrities who came last night aren’t interesting. Merdeka Ride for Green 2009 is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to gear up their bikes, put their feet on the pedals, feel the breeze, and journey through the heart Penang. Cyclist or those from outstation will have a chance to enjoy and grasp the sense of Penang through pedal power on two wheels.

There will be 2 category of ride open for registration. For family members, the organizers have arranged a 15km smooth route ride. And for those who are looking for more adrenalin challenge, they could sign up for the 52km professional ride incorporating hill road challenge. No matter which ride they take part, both will be fun for all cycling enthusiasts and supporters to join. Both category are not competition based.

The organizers aim to attract more than 1000 – 1500 cyclist in their attempt to go into Malaysia Book of Record by being the
largest bicycle ride in support for green.

Start venue: Polo Ground (Padang Polo) – opposite the Penang Hospital

End Venue: (1) Esplanade – 15km ride (2) Queensbay Mall – 52km ride

Organizer: Penang Youth, Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee and Lions Club of Gold Coast

Fees: RM10

Gift: a certification of completion, T-shirts and a chance for a lucky draw.
