The Penang State Government will organize the ‘Chap Goh Meh’ celebration or the 15th night of the Lunar New Year celebration on 9th February 2009 at Esplande from 7pm to 11pm.

This occasion signifies the first full moon of the New Year and during this celebration you will find fair maidens gathering to toss tangerines into the sea, in hope that their future spouse will pick it up. Besides that, there will be several cultural performances including a Baba Nyonya performance.

Chap Goh Meh’s schedule:

7.00pm – Lion Dance, Dragon Dance and Chingay performances

7.30pm – Arrival of YAB Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng

7.35pm – Speech by CM

7.45pm – “Kam” Tangarine orange throwing ceremony

8.30pm – Arrival of TYT Dato Seri (Dr) Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Haji Abbas, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang serta yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Dato’ Seri Utama Hajah Majimor Bt Shariff

8.35pm – “Negaraku” National Anthem
