H1N1 Flu top 10 FAQ

Seraph

With the number of cases arising, H1N1 is becoming more of a global threat. I have received numerous emails about cases, miracle cures, prevention tips and all, below is a comprehensive FAQ which I have received in my email as well and would like to share with everyone. Please remember, don’t be selfish, if you have contracted the illness or is suspected of having it, please don’t go around public places or even your work place or school! If you do so you are being very selfish in spreading the disease to other innocent victims.

Now I present you the FAQ, read up and help save yourself, your friends and your family and ultimately the world! (being a bit dramatic there)

1) Can we distinguish between regular and H1N1 flu, without a lab test?

No, the flu is the flu, but there are variations in presentation. Some symptoms such as cough, runny nose, fever, body aches, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhoea occur more or less in every flu patient, but may present differently by different people. Some infected people have very mild symptoms, some in between, and a small minority, probably less than 10 per cent, has severe features including the dangerous pneumonia. Continue reading

Playstation 3 has landed

Seraph

I thought I was over gaming but after getting my Playstation 3 a month and half ago, it’s like an old flame had been rekindled, and yes I realised that gaming is still pretty much a part of my life and I really enjoy it.

My Playstation 3

My Playstation 3

It’s been roughly 3 years since the Playstation 3 was first launched and the heat is not dying down yet, in fact I would say that the heat is just picking up with a slew of cool games coming up compared to the earlier days of the Playstation 3 where the amount of noteworthy titles were far and between, giving the XBox 360 somewhat of an edge these past years. However I’m confident that the PS3 will make a comeback and possibly beat the XBox 360 as the number one choice for game consoles. Watch out Microsoft.

Now the bad part and maybe good part as well, is that there are no pirated blu ray games, and each PS3 title would cost roughly RM130 and above, while this is essentially bad for our pockets it’s good for the gaming industry, and hopefully with a bigger support group for original games, the government will be able to bring down the prices of games in Malaysia, fat chance but we can always hope and pray I suppose.

Prices of the PS3 has undoubtedly come down over the years, I remember it being priced RM2700 to RM3000 when it was first available in Malaysia, utterly crushing my intentions of getting a new console back then. It has since become more ‘affordable’ I suppose, and I bought mine at the price of RM1699 + RM200 for Street Fighter 4. The whole package comes with the console (duh), standard A/V cables, two Dual Shock 3 Controllers, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Street Fighter 4. Some would say it’s pricey, but if you consider getting a blu ray player which would cost you over a thousand ringgit, and it doesn’t play games, I’d say the PS3 is the better buy. I’d recommend anyone who’s looking to get a blu ray player to get the PS3 instead, as it’s more expandable as a media centre instead of just a plain jane blu ray player.

Now that’s all about my PS3 for now, hopefully I won’t go broke over buying games, signing off!

Can love be compared?

Seraph

Love, an emotion that often bogs the minds of even the greatest of minds, it is a blessing and a curse at the same time, depending on individuals. Why? because for those who have found their true love and are happily together, then it would be a blessing, but yet, there are it’s ups and downs as in any relationship. Conversely it would be a curse for those who have met with troubles, or the love they found is just single sided, this essentially makes one feel very sad and depressed.

Eventhough we know the consequences of love, we still go for it and often like to compare with others, but can love be compared? Some would say yes some would say no, but we still compare, perhaps the two songs below will shed some light on the issue.

BABY says that love can’t be compared.

王明麗 & 阿飛 says otherwise.

Well the main reason I post this two songs up is because I like the songs, at the same time they’re both meaningful and is worth discussing. So what do you all think? Sorry to my readers who aren’t mandarin literate but the songs are in mandarin only, I’ll see if there’s a translation on the lyrics or maybe try to translate it myself if anyone’s interested in knowing more about the meaning of the songs. If not, just enjoy the songs, they’re nice pieces.

So what do you all think? Can love be compared?

Freeing the crabs!!

Seraph

I’ve heard of people releasing pigeons, birds, but last Saturday was my first time witnessing the releasing of crabs! Yes in an act of kindness, buddhists gathered round round one of the beaches in Batu Feringghi to release crabs back into the wild.

Go now, be free!

Though I think it’s a noble deed, I also think that it’s actually creating the demand for people to capture animals only to be sold back and released, it’s a vicious cycle, moreover a friend of mine told me that research shows that 90% of these released animals do not survive. So are we really helping to save or are we actually helping indirectly in their capture and sale on the market?

My First Tutorial

Seraph
The course material

The course material

Having started my MBA programme at Wawasan University, my first tutorial finally came. After years of not touching books (official academic studies type), I have to pick up the mantle once again for the next 2.5 years to 3 years.

Strategic Management

Strategic Management

Since this is ODL (Open Distance Learning), there’s only one tutorial every month, which means all three subjects will be on the same day. Good and bad I suppose, the good is not having to return for classes on some other day, the bad? Well, it was rather tiring. It was good overall though. The first class was held at Disted College instead of the WOU Main Campus, not much difference I suppose, it’s still a classroom environment.

Marketing Management

Marketing Management

For this semester I’m taking three papers, which are Strategic Management, Operations Management and Marketing Management. Of the three papers, I find Marketing Management to be most interesting and fun whereas Operations Management is a bit on the dull, dry and boring side. Plus the lack of production experience makes it a bit hard to digest. Well now, wish me luck, need to finish up three assignments by the end of the month, which is drawing ever so closer.

Upcoming photography contest

Seraph

Get your cameras ready folks, as Penang’s very own Open Distance Learning institution, Wawsasan Open University is coming up with a photography contest starting next week! Below is all the info I gathered from their website:

“Wawasan Open University is organising a two-month web digital photography contest to encourage participants to capture the flexible and accessible nature of open distance and lifelong learning available at the university.

The competition themed ‘Your World, Your Classroom’ will run until April 16th and is open to everyone with no age limit. Attractive prizes await the winners while the first 100 participants will receive a WOU t-shirt.

The best entry to the contest is set to win a Macbook Air followed by one Macbook White as second prize and one I-Pod Touch as third. There will be 10 I-Pod Shuffles given away as consolation prizes.

WOU also promises a special prize of a Digital SLR Canon camera for the contestant who sends out his digital snapshot to the most number of friends, family and acquaintances.

The rule of the contest is simple: Take a digital photograph of yourself studying, where you are portrayed reading a book or browsing through your laptop in the most interesting background setting or environment imaginable, and then caption the digital snapshot.

“We want to show how WOU offers a golden opportunity for people to pursue quality tertiary education at their own pace and leisure. The easy IT connectivity in the world we now live has made studying anywhere, anytime, a reality,” said a WOU spokesperson.

To send in your entries, just click onto the web entry form at contest.wou.edu.my, follow the simple instructions and submit your postcard online.

For inquiries, call the Corporate Communications Department of the university at 04-2289323.”

So do look out next week as I bring you more information about this contest! Or you may choose to call them up directly to ask for further details.

Chinese New Year Celebration the Penang way!

Seraph

It was all red with excitement on Armenian Street, Cannon Street, Chulia Street, Soo Hong Lane, Ah Quay Street, Quay Street, Kampong Kolam as celebrations for the Chinese Spring Festival or better known as Chinese New Year were held on this heritage trail of Penang. There were cultural and historical displays along the streets, showcasing Chinese culture which is quite an eye opener for me as well.

Happy Chinese New Year!!
